Each has advantages. LED lighting is increasing in popularity due to its inherent energy efficiency, long lifespan and sustainability whereas fluorescent lighting has a lower upfront investment and can be used to build very large light boxes up to 36 feet in length. LEDs, or light emitting diodes, are a type of semiconductor circuit that generates light when activated. Red LEDs were used in the sixties and seventies for indicator lights and in personal electronics such as digital alarm clocks and calculators. The invention of a blue LED in the 1990s by Japanese scientists was a significant breakthrough that allowed white LED lights to be created and adapted for use in mainstream lighting applications. Over the past several decades, the cost of LED components has dropped significantly to where the price of LED lighting is approaching that of fluorescent lighting. The initial cost of LED technology is still more than fluorescent but LED lighting consumes much less power, up to 75% less, and can last up to five to ten times as long, considerations for overall return on investment. Other advantages for LED lighting include lower heat emissions than fluorescent and a much smaller size than fluorescent tubes, allowing light boxes to be as narrow as 7/8" in depth. LED lighting does require a constant power source however since a small change in voltage can have a significant effect on an LED circuit. Using a constant power source will maximize the longevity of LED lighting. We offer edgelit and backlit LED Light Boxes with frame options including snap front Value and Premium styles, a Frameless Fabric design, locking Hidden Hinge Light Boxes and Outdoor Light Boxes weatherproofed for exterior placement. Light Boxes are available for graphic sizes from as small as 8" x 8" up to 6' x 10' in our narrowest frame depth (less than 1") up to a visually stunning 10' x 18' in a 3 7/8" or 6 7/8" frame depth. Light output options include standard LED lighting and high output LEDs for locations facing direct sunlight such as storefronts. All our Light Boxes are constructed with a lightweight yet durable aluminum chassis with 55% recycled metal content and warranties range from six months for entry-level import models up to two years for custom built Light Boxes. Each light box is UL-listed for safety and code compliance. Custom Light Boxes are made in the USA in our California-based manufacturing facility. I have a fused glass panel that is about 12.5 wide and 20 inches high and a little more than half inch thick. I would like to back light it. I display it on a table top easel and power is easily available.
Could you please advise on both product and price. I would like the frame to be as unobtrusive as possible.
Thank you. Linda.

Hi Linda,

We received your quote request via our quote form and someone should have reached out to you on Friday. One solution would be to place an LED panel behind the glass, the LED panel is 0.5" thick. Another option would be to enclose your panel in a light box frame with sufficient depth to hold it and the lighting infrastructure but that would be at an additional cost.

Best regards,
Marie
